Land Cruiser and many Prado trims use a large JIS D31-family battery, while smaller-engine Prado and Hilux variants commonly take a D26 size; the technician confirms from the label before fitting.

Several newer TNGA-platform models, including recent Camry, RAV4 and Corolla generations, can use European DIN-style cases, so an old Toyota size chart is not always right.

Toyota hybrids such as the Prius, Corolla, Camry and RAV4 hybrids have a 12V auxiliary battery, commonly AGM, located in the boot, under the rear seat or under the bonnet depending on the model.

Reading a Japanese (JIS) battery code
Most Japanese cars use JIS-sized batteries with codes like 55D23L or 80D26R. The code tells you everything the technician needs.
- The first number is a performance rank, not the Ah. Higher means more starting power.
- The letter (B, D, E…) is the width and height class of the case.
- The next two digits are the length in centimetres.
- L or R tells you which side the positive terminal sits on. Getting it wrong means the cables will not reach.
A Toyota hybrid with a weak 12V auxiliary battery will not switch to READY even though the large hybrid battery is healthy, and owners often mistake this for an expensive hybrid system fault.

What battery size does a Toyota Land Cruiser take?
Most Land Cruiser 200 and 300 Series models in the UAE use a large JIS D31-family battery of roughly 90–105Ah under the bonnet. Terminal side and capacity vary by engine and year, so our technician checks the fitted battery before installing the matching replacement.
Does a Toyota hybrid have a normal 12V battery?
Yes. Alongside the high-voltage hybrid pack, every Toyota hybrid has a small 12V auxiliary battery that boots the hybrid system, and it wears out like any car battery. It is usually AGM and sits in the boot, under the rear seat or under the bonnet depending on the model.
Can a Prado battery be replaced at home?
Yes, a Prado battery change takes about 15–20 minutes at your home, office or building car park. The technician tests the old battery and the alternator first, fits the correct D26 or D31 size, cleans the terminals and takes the old battery away for recycling.
How long does a Toyota battery last in the UAE?
In UAE conditions a Toyota battery typically lasts 2–3 years. Heat, short trips and long periods parked shorten that, so we recommend a test once the battery passes two years.
